I WRITE in response to Chris Titley's comments about York TV (Diary, May 4).

It is true that York TV is now off air. This is not because of a "technical failure" but due to the installation of a new, more powerful, transmitter.

Since York TV began in 2003, viewers have experienced picture quality problems from our station. As an organisation which hopes to listen to the opinions of viewers, but also one where budgets are tight, we are trying to address this problem and have gone off air while the work takes place.

As for the assertion that "the station's outside broadcast camera" has been "sent to Japan" - this is factually incorrect. Three cameras are being repaired while the station is off air, because this is the best chance to do maintenance work.

Unless Mr Titley knows something I don't - highly doubtful after reading his article - the cameras remain in this country and you could have seen one being used free of charge to cover the talented youngsters of the York City Knights Scholarship Scheme on Saturday morning in New Earswick.
