THE fact I fell asleep listening to Hill Country Revue shouldn't be taken as a sign it's not worth listening to.
On the contrary, this fifth album by North Mississippi Allstars is a fantastic example of everything that's good in southern state American music.
Hill Country Revue is the Allstars' first live album, recorded at Bonnaroo in Tennessee and the buzz of the event comes through in every song.
This was a performance with a difference for the four-man band, who were joined on stage by a host of veteran and novice blues singers forging a link between the past and the future. From the opening track, Shake 'Em On Down, to the last, Going Down South, this is 80 minutes of foot-stomping, head-bobbing, yeeha-ing fun. Which I would happily fall asleep to again.
