NEW Earswick hearts were broken in the Yorkshire Junior League U12s Continuation Cup final as a try in the last minute gave Dewsbury Celtic the trophy.

It was a controversial score, too, as it came in the sixth minute of injury time, with All Blacks claiming the referee had forgotten to restart his watch after a stoppage.

All Blacks took an 8-0 half-time lead with tries by centre Joe Dey and stand-off Adam Johnson, pouncing on a loose ball following Dean Layton's kick.

But Dewsbury levelled and with five minutes to go went 12-8 ahead, only for the brave All Blacks to hit back as Joel Johnson scooted over from dummy-half, Layton goaling for a 14-12 lead.

However, Dewsbury scored with the last play of the game to deny the York side a league and cup double.

A depleted Heworth U9s put up a plucky performance against East Leeds, although tiredness took its toll in the second half.

The Villagers' good rugby was rewarded with tries from man of the match Jack Garritty (2), most improved Liam Forshaw (2) and James Dunhill. Kieran Cooper topped the tackle count, supported by Tom Gurden.

York Acorn U9s produced an indifferent display but their good ball-handling saw them beat Wetherby. Tries came from Harry Bromwich (2), man of the match Nathan Wilkinson, Ricky Watson and Ashleigh Hyde, while notable displays came from Josh Potter and Alister Meek.
