THREE tries in the first half of York Acorn 'A' team's title decider made it a day to remember for the Blue and Golds.
Acorn 'A' beat Undercliffe 14-6 at Thanet Road to secure the Pennine League division four crown before the club's first team took to the field to end their National Conference division two promotion campaign with a 60-16 thrashing of Crosfields.
Stand-off Craig Fox scored a try and conversion to give Acorn 'A' the lead and man of the match centre Ryan Callam and full-back John Tattersfield also crossed, the latter with a 70-yard effort, to make it 14-0 at half-time, a lead they were not to surrender.
The tie was necessary because Pennine League rules state that important issues should teams finish level on points must be decided by a play-off.
'A' team coach Ian Hann, whose side were also promoted last season, said both the win and the title was deserved, Acorn having finished above Undercliffe on points difference.
"It was hard-fought but we deserved it and it was probably fair that we won the title."
