DESPITE the York voting boundaries changing several years ago, they still do not allow everyone living within the ring road to vote for the City of York MP.

I pay my council tax to York, I travel on York buses, I attend York Hospital. My doctor is in York, children go to local schools, I shop in York, go to evening classes and theatres in York and my bins are emptied by York council.

So why then can I not vote for a York MP?

Why on earth do people living in Rawcliffe and also those in Clifton Moor and Clifton Without, and goodness knows how many other areas, still have to vote for an MP living miles away and with no idea what living in York is all about?

We know that Mr Bayley has got in again as the Labour MP for York but I can't help wondering whether this would still be the same outcome had the boundaries been changed.

I will be writing to many people about these concerns and urging them to do something about the boundaries before the next election.

I am aware that people living in Fulford, Bishopthope and Heslington vote for an MP in Selby.

Students going to York University also cast votes for the Selby MP which means that they don't even have a say in the MP for the city where they are studying.

Most of the people affected only had a choice of three candidates rather than seven that were on offer in York. Is this a fair way of voting? I think not and I wonder how many other people share this view.
