WEST Indian Lorenzo Ingram from Clifton Alliance has galvanised Stamford Bridge who find themselves heading the Hunters Estate Agents York and District Senior Cricket League first division pack after beating Driffield II by four wickets.

Old East Yorkshire friendships for Bridge - promoted as runners-up last season - were renewed with the visit of Driffield, who took the first innings and reached 167-9.

Mick Drury hit a half century while 17-year-old Ben Dobson made 36 and Mark Thomson 30. Graham Tipping took 4-33 for Stamford and then followed with an unbeaten 26 to build on Ingram's 52 and 34 from Andy Milner which combined to earn a four-wicket home win.

Division two is led, perhaps somewhat surprisingly, by Rowntrees, who have a two-point advantage in a division which sees the top five clubs separated by a mere seven points.

The Rowntrees' side took first innings when they entertained Scarborough and sported three half-centurions in their ranks as they racked up a score of 228-9.

Their improved batting depth was fronted by Gerry Capelin, who made 69, Dave Williams (55) and Paul Brook, who made 58no, while Scarborough bowler Mark Wells had a creditable 5-71. Despite Dave Whittle's 4-26, Scarborough were never in danger of defeat and earned a draw at 155-8 with Mark Welford making 49 and former Folkton & Flixton player Nick Zakrzewski (51).

At New Earswick, Goole Town's bowlers set up a six-wicket win by dismissing the home team for 110. Once again the destroyer in chief was Dave England, who took 6-34, while Aussie Ashley Hulme took 3-41 to negate Andy James' 34. Skipper Nigel Foster then piped his side to victory with an unbeaten 46.

Ripon triumphed by five wickets when they surpassed the Dringhouses score of 173-9 at Studley Road.

John Crowe was top man for the York side with 77, while home bowlers Dirk Van Dyke (3-28) and Chris Waters (3-48) kept the home supporters cheerful. The Citizens' reply was then masterminded by the ageless Peter Squires who made 47no, while Stuart Clark (45) and overseas man Paul Reynolds (27) ensured their team's winning bonus.
