SIXTY years ago, people celebrated the end of a terrible war. And they pledged never to forget the sacrifices made to achieve Victory In Europe Day.
Six decades later, we are keeping that promise. The anniversary brought hundreds of people together, from ageing war veterans to young children, in events across Yorkshire marking our continent's liberation from tyranny.
This was more than an excellent excuse for a party. It was another opportunity to offer thanks to all those who gave so much for our freedom.
