THESE thoughts are addressed to the driver of the new, blue Audi A4 who nearly killed my son as he walked to school last Tuesday morning.

I suppose I should thank you for swerving just in time as you jumped the red light at the pedestrian crossing at the junction of Holgate Road and Poppleton Road at 8.45am.

By now, you will have realised neither I nor the other witnesses managed to take your registration number as you sped off.

Obviously, I have contacted the police but there's little they can do except wait and see if there's another similar offence involving a new, blue Audi A4.

You will also be thanking your lucky stars that there are no CCTV cameras on that part of the road, so we can't see by how many feet and inches you missed my son.

I hope you have had a particularly bad day today. I'm guessing that you were late for work, driving unlawfully at speed at 8.45am.

I hope your work colleagues, boss, friends, family - possibly your own children, even - have noticed you seemed a bit shaken up.

I like to imagine that nearly killing a four year old by your recklessness and stupidity would weigh on your conscience.

Shame on you.

Catherine Moat,

Acomb Road,

York.
