BECAUSE I have a preference for seeing the streets in my area reasonably litter-free, and because of local authority neglect, I have had to assume responsibility for litter clearance.
The area is an intensive thoroughfare between two schools. Consequently the amount of litter deposited on the streets is considerable.
During the past 18 months, I have attended local government meetings bringing the attention of York council to the litter situation.
I have advised the council of the concern of myself and my fellow residents and I have requested an improved performance from those responsible.
Sadly this has not occurred so ostensibly my self-imposed task of honorary litter clearer is to continue.
