THE inaugural East Yorkshire Rugby Union Merit Table play-off finals at Pocklington RUFC proved to be an instant hit and look set to become an annual event.
Previously the top sides of the two merit tables - for inter-club fixtures of East Yorkshire clubs' second, third and fourth teams - had simply been declared winners at the end of the season. But this year the East Yorkshire committee decided to hold a play-off for the top two.
Beverley 3rds took the division two title by beating Driffield 4ths 28-12 in a well contested game.
Beverley 'A' then made it a double success with a 28-22 victory over Malton & Norton.
