RICHARD Jackson wrote about the temporary removal of a traffic island from Knavesmire Road, in connection with Royal Ascot (Letters, May 4).
I can remember another traffic island being temporarily removed in York, back in the early 1970s. This was located in Blossom Street, and was taken out so that the Queen could ride into York in a carriage procession via Micklegate Bar, with a Household Cavalry escort.
Perhaps history is set to repeat itself?
