A TRAFFIC island was put on Knavesmire Road in York for the benefit of cyclists taking the route over Little Knavesmire into town.
It seemed to me this island would restrict the flow of traffic when the racecourse would be holding the biggest race meeting ever in June.
Last Thursday workmen were removing the entire island and I am told they are going to put it back after the June meeting.
What is the cost to the taxpayers in York, and has the planning of this work been thought through?
How many cyclists does this route serve from Pulleyn Drive to town?
What was wrong with the cycle, bus and taxi lane that runs up the Mount that necessitates a new route into town?
