A YORK technology firm is heralding its performance at a huge business convention in Las Vegas after industry leaders said the company had "kicked ass" at the show.
Jerry Ibbotson of Media Mill, York's audio production company, proved to be the star turn at the world's largest electronic media show in Las Vegas, where the American National Association of Broadcasters' NAB 2005 conference attracts up to 150,000 delegates.
Mr Ibbotson, Media Mill's creative manager, was invited to take centre stage for Adobe Systems, one of the world's largest software companies, to demonstrate his soundscapes for computer games and animation using Adobe's sound software, Audition 1.5.
He wowed his massive audience with his demonstration of why his sound design company, which is based in Shambles, had cut itself a niche in the market by providing top-quality audio production for the video and computer games industry.
Jason Levine, product spokesman for Adobe Systems Inc, said: "It was a pleasure having Jerry aboard for the NAB conference. We're grateful for his time and effort coming out to Las Vegas. Media Mill really kicked ass."
Mr Ibbotson said: "We've done this before for Adobe in London and they appreciate the creativity that the British seem to add in the use of their products.
"Our audio for games like World Rally Championship makes an exciting show and it went down really well in Las Vegas.
"I also demonstrated how the sound of the army firing range at Strensall can be treated to make it sound more Hollywood in a computer animation."
He said by attending the conference was to be able to provide his hosts with some creative input into the next generation of Adobe software, thereby gaining an even greater advantage for Media Mill.
"It was strange to be drawn inside this major American business and to see the hunger, drive and focus of its top people and yet gratifying to know that they did value the work of Media Mill and our opinions on how to make their software better," he said.
