AS one door closed, another one opened for Terry's workers Andy Moses and Sarah Young.
The pair were among 105 workers to leave the chocolate factory for the last time yesterday, in the biggest swathe of redundancies.
As he walked out of the factory gates for the final time, Andy, 41, told how he planned to set up a computer business with a colleague, while Sarah, 33, said she was going back to college to study health and safety.
They said there had been tears as people said goodbye to colleagues, and were given a box of chocolates and a CD souvenir of Terry's memories.
Sarah said: "It was very sad today, but it's a good opportunity to move on and change career and try something else."
Andy said he had been thinking of starting his own business for a while.
He said: "It's come at a good time really, but then we've had a while to prepare for it. I've got mixed feelings about it all, but I'm not bitter. Terry's have been a good company to work for and I'm looking to the future.
"I just think it would have been better if we'd all walked out the gates at the same time."
The redundancies bring the total number of jobs lost at the plant to 216. Only 108 now remain.
Manufacture of Twilight, York Fruits and Touch of Class has now ceased in York, with only production of the Chocolate Orange remaining.
