I SHOULD like to thank your paper for highlighting City of York Council's housing refurbishment programme ('Council home makeover offer', April 25).
Readers may be interested to know that there has been a 22 per cent growth in the Tenants' Choice programme since the Lib Dems took control of the council in 2003.
The number of homes benefiting from the scheme has risen from only 393 in 2002/03 under the faltering Labour administration, to 479 in 2004/05 under the Lib Dems.
As a result of this, our latest survey results show very high satisfaction levels with the modernisation programme.
Coun Ceredig Jamieson-Ball,
Emily Mews, York.
