HAVING read the article about the amount of money being raised through car parking and associated charges (April 27) all I can say is "Well done City of York Council".
By pursuing a policy of making it unattractive for people to bring their cars into the heart of York it is helping to keep essential traffic flowing, reducing pollution and increasing safety.
Although things can never be considered perfect, the council is doing its best to give us an efficient, clean and up-to-date public transport system. Park and Ride especially is an excellent service and if people choose not to use it but insist on staying in their cars, I am very happy that they then make a substantial contribution towards keeping my council tax down.
So, keep up the good work, City of York Council.

Howard Drive,
