IT was interesting to read the article about the access issues around the city centre (April 25). The main problem is pubs and restaurants.
I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of wheelchair accessible venues in the city centre.
Many venues claim they are accessible when you call them, but they seem to forget that getting into a place is just the beginning, and then proceed to tell you the toilets are up a spiral staircase.
I don't know why the Evening Press bothers with the access check in its Eating Out reviews - more often than not it is no.
This is a shame given all the work that disabled people have done over the years to try and make York accessible to all.
