REGARDING late licence applications, as a customer of Wetherspoons I agree their pubs are well run but that is not the point.
Any person with experience of city centre nightlife knows public nuisance, disorder and crime occur on the street after closing time.
The later licensed premises close the later the trouble. Ask any policeman.
If late licences are granted, more applications from pubs in the vicinity will follow because they will need to compete.
The council must adopt a policy of no late licences in residential areas. Anything less will be a betrayal.
We have witnessed late drinking applications in the Barbican and now the Piccadilly/Walmgate area.
Will it be your area next?
