Heworth ARLC 'A' team lost 28-20 at Elmpark Way to the touring Royal Armoured Corps representative side.
The game, which was entertaining and well-contested despite the awful conditions, saw Heworth open strongly only to trail 16-4 at the break, their try coming from full-back Danny Flint wide out.
The hosts then rallied, well led by Phil Marwood, Sean Brough and Ben Eastwood, to score three tries through Lee Clayton, Sam Clarke and Glen Chittock, with conversions from Sean Coulson and Gary Watkinson.
Juniors Chris Varley, Rob Ainsworth, Mike Welch, Dean McQuade and Paul Thompson also had good games, but the Royal Armoured Corps hung on to clinch a good victory.
