THOSE of us who live in this area are appalled at the amount of litter deposited daily on Knavesmire.
Anyone who is in the area at 8.30am or early afternoon will know where most of this litter is coming from - the children of Millthorpe School. In a recent call to the school secretary I was told "we will try and get someone out there", although nothing had been done two days later. But I was horrified to hear her say "sometimes the teachers pick it up".
What incentive do the children have to clear up after themselves if they know teachers will be sent out to pick up their litter?
I have spoken to York Pride, who are unfailingly sympathetic and civil, but I don't feel residents' council tax should be used to address this problem when it is clear where the cause lies.
Rather than simply complaining to each other about how dreadful it is, residents should complain - every day, if necessary - to the school. The number is York 686400 and the headmaster is Mr Wootton.
