AN artist hoping to add a splash of colour to the York campaign has outlined his vision in broad brushstrokes.
Andy Hinkles, better known as Milladdio, has many of his unique crayon caricatures on display around the city.
Now he is bringing his distinctive style to the hustings.
He remains a member of the Official Monster Raving Loony Party, despite falling out with Elvis impersonator Eddie Vee, who was to be the Loony candidate for York, but failed to raise the £500 deposit. Milladdio is standing as an independent at the election on May 5.
Although he says his campaign, like his paintings, will be colourful and cartoon-like, it will not be Loony.
And there are some serious ideas underpinning his candidacy.
"York should be a community where history is used to create its culture, therefore the culture it creates becomes its history," he said.
He said: "I hope York isn't remembered as the community which was just trying to remember previous communities. Let's not become one giant theme park."
Praising residents, he continued: "York's buildings make it a city. In a unique way, York's people make it a village.
"If we can use some integrity, some wholesome coming together, we can make York a welcoming place for visitors, and a stimulating and rewarding home for its residents."
Milladdio has launched the York Integrity Party to develop these ideas.
The launch was accompanied by a musical gathering in Museum Gardens, with independent buskers among those playing well-known songs to visitors.
A late entrant to the election, Milladdio is now drawing up more specific policies.
