VICTORY in their final game of the season will guarantee New Earswick All Blacks ARLC the Pennine League division two title following their latest big win.
The All Blacks pasted lowly Elland 'A' 68-0 to stay top on points-difference above Kippax Welfare, who have now played all their games, and two points clear of Newsome, who have one match to play.
All Blacks now face Queensbury 'A' in their last match in two weeks' time and while a victory would ensure the crown, defeat could leave them facing a bizarre three-way play-off for the two promotion places. As reported by the Press, the Pennine League ignores points-difference when it comes to deciding titles, promotion and relegation.
Chairman Charles Rollinson said the club were desperate to go up in their first season in this league, having proven to be a class apart from most teams in this tier.
He explained: "There are only three or four teams who have caused us any real problems. Kippax and Newsome are both good sides and Crigglestone are decent but after that we're a class above the rest of the division."
Just two defeats in 19 games - both early in the season - and a massive points-difference of plus-624 back up his statement, with the All Blacks averaging 42 points a game.
The 68 against Elland came courtesy of 13 tries, man of the match Chris Judge leading the way with five before leaving the fray early in the second half to rest him ahead of the crucial Queensbury clash.
The scoring began early with outstanding 17-year-old stand-off Liam Gargan sending prop Jamie Daniel over, and more tries followed in the first half.
Judge got four of them, dummying over, racing in from 30 yards and twice being put through by Gargan, while scrum-half Ben Jones set up Carl Pallister for a try, with the centre turning provider for 17-year-old winger Dean Smith.
Judge's fifth try six minutes into the second half signalled his departure, but the tries continued to flow.
The excellent Jones twice raced in from 60 and 40 yards, substitute Jamie Rhodes crossed twice, being set up by Pallister and Jones, and Gargan scored from another Jones break. Jones completed the scoring with his third conversion, James Sanderson having earlier booted five.
