A NEW work-based learning centre has opened at the Sundora Foods factory in Pocklington - evidence of the good that can arise when management and unions work together.
The Fruitful Learning Centre is a joint initiative between the dried fruit specialists and trade union USDAW (Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers), offering a range of personal development and vocational courses for more than 160 people.
The centre is being equipped with internet-ready computers and a library of books and CD Roms.
Adrian Gascoyne, the union representative who helped to establish the centre, said: "It is about the long-term development of each and every Sundora worker.
"It's about building for the future, enabling staff to develop new skills that will enhance their career prospects and benefit the business as a whole. The learning opportunities are designed to be fun as well as informative."
Brian Young, chief executive of Sundora Foods, said: "Sundora Foods and USDAW are working in partnership to promote and support lifelong learning and ensure equality of access to learning opportunities.
