BRAYTON Junior School have won the right to represent Selby at the North Yorkshire Youth Games after winning the 2005 NViT Selby Tag Rugby League festival.
The York City Knights-organised event saw 21 schools battle it out at Selby Rugby Union Club in four groups of five.
One from each group, Selby Abbey, Drax/ Barlow, St Mary's and Longmans Hill 'B', were awarded fair play prizes for their sportsmanship, with the four group winners being invited back for Monday's finals day after rain interfered with the final games.
Thorpe Willoughby and South Milford finished joint third after playing out a 0-0 draw in their third-place play-off.
Brayton then beat Hemingbrough 12-4 to take the honours.
More than 600 pupils in the Selby area received coaching in the build-up to the festival from Knights community coaches Ian Watkinson, Adam Prentis and Johnny Readshaw, led by Knights North Yorkshire development officer Ian Wilson.
It is hoped that the tournament will now act as a springboard for rugby league in the Selby area with all the schools involved having received tag rugby equipment.
Following the success so far, Selby Warriors are now looking to form a new under-11s team for next season. Training is at Selby Rugby Club each Wednesday 6pm-7.30pm.
Meanwhile, four more teams have qualified for the finals Day of the York City Knights-organised York Primary Schools Tag Rugby League Festival.
The ten-team heat last night saw Robert Wilkinson (Strensall), Ralph Butterfield PS and Wigginton make it through as the two leading sides.
Last night's fair play award winners were Sheriff Hutton and Heworth.
The heat last Thursday saw Longmarston PS and Westfields PS qualify.
Nine teams took part in Thursday's heat - a tenth team, Acomb PS, have been switched to tomorrow's fifth and final heat.
Longmarston won group 'A' and then beat group 'B' runners-up St George's in their semi-final, while group 'A' runners-up Westfield beat group 'B' winners Poppleton Ousebank.
Knights stars Peter Fox, Chris Levy, Lee Paterson and Simon Friend did the presentations, including a Knights cap each to the players of the Fair Play Award winners Rufforth and Poppleton Ousebank.
The final two heats will take place tonight and tomorrow.
