TWO York children bear the scars of someone else's stupidity. First 12-year-old Jasmine Southon suffered facial burns from an explosion caused when youths threw an aerosol on to a bonfire in Acomb.

Now Daniel Osguthorpe, 13 today, has similar injuries after someone flung a canister on a bonfire at his York home.

Fortunately, their marks will clear in time. But they could easily have lost an eye - or worse.

We hope the accidents' proximity is just coincidence, rather than the result of a hazardous new craze. Children have always been fascinated by fire and now is the time for parents to hammer home the dangers.
