Jonathan Baggeley had a nett 62 to win Allerthorpe Park's Lombard Trophy qualifier and the right to play with PGA professional James Calam in the regional final at Dunham Forest on May 25.
Qualifiers then go on to the grand final at San Lorenzo, Portugal from September 14-18.
Stuart Craven's 67 won him Allerthorpe's April medal, a shot ahead of Terry Holden, while Chris Baker edged out Malcolm Whiteley on countback after they had tied on 66 in division two. They also had the lowest gross scores of 85.
Heworth amateur Christopher Lee and club professional Steve Burdett are through to the regional final at Sand Moor GC on May 31 in the same competition after Lee won the club qualifier with a nett 70.
Buckled up
IONA Buckle won Kilnwick Percy GC's qualifier for the Health Perception Ladies Golf Union Championship ahead of Carol Kilford. She will now play in the regional final at Oakdale in July.
The club's pairs betterball strokeplay, played off a full handicap, was won by Allun Williams and Paul Anderson with a nett 59 to beat Dave Simpson and Malcolm Sharkey (63) and Peter Williamson and Mark Gatenby (64).
The annual men v junior match went the way of the senior players despite some excellent play from James Haigh, Michael Dennington and Chris Bird, the latter chipping in on the second.
Forlorn start
Fulford, newly-promoted to the Yorkshire Ladies Inter-Club Scratch Team Championship first division, lost 6-1 at Hornsea in their season's opener. Dot Elliott won the lone point.
All tee times have been taken for the 25th anniversary of the St Leonard's Hospice annual golf tournament at Fulford on Friday, May 25.
Tournament secretary Bobby Elliott said it was "a tremendous response" to a tournament, which has raised more than £100,000 for the hospice.
Crossley fire
MARILYN Cookland, the new lady captain at Forest Park GC, got the first competition of the season under way with her drive-in. Fiona Crossley took the honours on a back-three count-back from Trees Reed after both totalled 37 points in the Spring Trophy.
