SAXOPHONIST JAN Kopinski leads his maverick jazz combo Pinski Zoo at The Shed, Hovingham Village Hall, near York, on Saturday, April 16.
Kopinski is making his fourth Shed appearance.
In October 1998, he presented his soundtrack and video-link project Ghost Music; in 2002 he played with a Polish pianist by the name of Konikiewicz in his Zone K project; and in March 2003 he brought Pinski Zoo to Brawby Village Hall.
In the line-up are Kopinski on alto and tenor sax; his son Stefan and Karl Bingham, doubling up on bass; Steve Iliffe on keyboards "the size of the Starship Enterprise console"; and 6ft 4in drummer Steve Harris. Pinski Zoo have recorded eight albums and toured Europe and America extensively with their fusion of Eastern European classical music, folk laments, gritty funk and swinging English jazz.
