DESPITE strong winds the 24-field in Sunday's York Tackle angling contest averaged nearly 8lb a man in the silver fish-only contest on the two coarse lakes at the Poole Bridge Farm complex.

Dave Johnson (York Tackle) led from peg three on the old lake where he offered pellet at seven metres for 15lb 13oz of skimmers to a pound.

Runner-up Dave Benson (York Tackle) chose to fish even nearer in to combat the wind. Drawn on peg eight on the old lake he fished maggot with his top four just six inches from the bank, where he tempted 14lb 12oz of quality roach to the pound mark.

John Brain (Harrogate Nomads) made it back-to-back wins in the Bob-Co Series at Carpvale. Drawn peg one on Cyprio Lake he topped he 40-peg sell-out match with 55lb 4oz.

Alternating between maggot and pellet he tempted a dozen carp to 7lb to beat of the challenge of Steve Sharples (Bob-Co), who was on peg 56 on the match lake and had a superb bream and skimmer net of 47lb 14oz. Offering pellet at 11 and 13 metres into open water he had two slabs around the 5lb mark plus skimmers to a pound.

Others: John Haw (Acomb Tackle) 47-0-0, Dave Armitage (Bob-Co) 42-8-0, Mick Addinall (Spectrum Auto Services) 42-0-0 and Brian Husthwaite (Bob-Co) 41-9-0.

Ian Walker (Tadcaster) made it two wins on the bounce at the Willows in the Outwood Angling Centre series with a mixed bag from peg 53 on Goldrush.

After taking just four ide on his favourite shallow caster technique he switched to offering corn close to some tree cover and latched into the first of ten carp that gave him a winning haul of 39lb. Close behind was Gareth Malham (The Willows) who had carp to 3lb on corn from peg 48 for his 38lb 10oz
