YORK Under-15 Schools' football team finished on a high by winning the North Yorkshire Area Cup.
The competition, which is played as a one-day tournament, saw York go through the day without conceding a goal due to the safe hands of both their goalkeepers -- Guy Rickinson and Dan Smith.
York, who have improved steadily through the season, started with a 2-0 win over Hambleton and Richmond with goals from Phil Smith and Kev Kozinski, who scored with a delicate chip from outside the area.
The York boys were then held to a 0-0 draw by a well organised Scarborough side.
In the decider against Harrogate, York turned on the style to win 4-0 with goals from Danny Peace (2), Danny Penrose and Mark Wilson, who volleyed in from outside the area.
York U11s enjoyed a 3-0 victory over Scarborough with Jamie Wilstrop, Sam Fowler and Charlie Binns on the scoresheet.
Wilstrop opened the scoring after his first shot was saved, with good work by Fowler and Jacob Gore having set up the chance.
Fowler then doubled the lead before the break and, after Aaron Hudson, Gore, Fowler and Wilstrop all went close in the second half, debutant Charlie Binns capped a man-of-the-match performance by adding a third goal with a first-time shot.
Strong defensive displays from Alex Dale and captain Jacob McCormick helped York keep a clean sheet.
The U11s play in the Northern area finals of the English Schools' FA seven-a-side competition at Chester-le-Street on Saturday.
York have been drawn in Group B and will play four teams from five: East Cleveland, Newcastle, Chester-le-Street, Skelmersdale, or Huyton.
The overall winner will represent the North of England in the national finals to be played at Lilleshall.
YorkU11s: George Catling, Conor Qualter, Sam Bryan, Charlie Clamp, Jacob McCormick, Alex Needham, Jacob Gore and Jamie Wilstrop. Other squad members are welcome to join the team and should meet at 9am at the Millfield pub, Poppleton Business Park.
Millthorpe School, York, are tonight contesting the North Yorkshire Schools' U15 final when they tackle Harrogate-based St Aidan's under floodlights at Tadcaster Albion's ground (7pm ko).
