I NOTE numerous letters in the Press concerning cyclists riding on the pavements, which as a cyclist, pedestrian and car driver I do not condone.

However, motorists have some responsibility for this too.

I also wonder why the council bothers painting cycle lanes on the road, as to a fair proportion of drivers they are invisible unless they are at the end of a junction. Then they use them as alternative give way lines.

I have even nearly been knocked off my bike by a driver who decided not to wait behind a car turning right but drove not only across the cycle lane but the pavement as well.

Last week I was waiting to go straight on at traffic lights when a driver pulled up along side me in the cyclists' green box in the lane for turning left. When the lights changed he cut across the front of me and the traffic behind me and went straight on queue jumping.

Also lots of motorists leave insufficient room when passing cyclists making them feel very vulnerable.

Therefore please don't just blame cyclists for riding on pavements but look at the bigger picture too. Give cyclists no excuse for riding on pavements.
