Charlie De Pre dashed down from working in Scotland to replace ex-Leeds Tykes scrum-half Mark Chester, a mumps victim.
Andy Boyle ran half the length of the field to score Harrogate's first try.
Centre Jamie Barker marked his return from suspension by scoring the second try. Lee Cholewa converted and also landed three penalties, two from halfway.
