I read with interest the continuing debate about hairdresser cum-charity fundraiser Terry Smith's motives for courting publicity.

On the one hand, Bob Ward (Letters, April 4) alleges Terry's aim was free publicity at the expense of his customers' generosity. Then Terry's mate, Bill Daniels (Letters, April 6) attacks the criticism as out of hand, saying: "I know Terry personally and he would not do this for a freebie".

If it wasn't for the fact that Terry appears to do these good deeds on a regular basis, followed possibly as regularly by a big photo of him and his shop in your paper, maybe people would not be so quick to jump to this conclusion.

Keep up the good charity work Terry, and if the day job doesn't pay you could always get a job in marketing or public relations.
