Heworth 'A', who had already won the York Conservative clubs' Carlsberg UK Snooker League, finished the season on a high as they whitewashed Bootham 'B' 7-0.

The winning team was Kevin Gall, Jason Milner, Richie Burdett, Dave Taylor, Clive Whyte, Steve Burdett and Neil Wood (97 break).

This was Heworth's tenth consecutive title success and they are seeking their fifth league and cup double when they meet Fulford 'A' in the Kutters and Shannons Team Cup final next Wednesday at Bootham club.

Fulford 'A' finished in second spot by beating Acomb 'B' 4-3. Wayne Hartley, Simon England and Richard Stroughair put Fulford ahead after wins by Kevin Ventress and Ken Bowser for Acomb. Barry Manson levelled the match, but Peter Dunmore decided the result in Fulford's favour.

Fulford ended 16 points adrift of Heworth in the table.

Bootham 'A' went 3-1 behind against Heworth 'B' but recovered to win 4-3. Mark Darley won the first frame for Bootham and then Mike Braithwaite (who required the pink and black), Huw Faircliffe (re-spotted black) and Mick Frampton (black ball win) moved Heworth 3-1 up.

Colin Robinson (21 break), Brian Coulson (27 unfinished break) and Barry Rankin won the match for Bootham, who finished in third place.

Despite the defeat Heworth had done enough to retain the John Smith's 'B' Team Cup.

Fulford 'B', who had lost their previous three matches, surprisingly gained a 4-3 victory over a much-changed Acomb 'A', who had defeated Heworth 'A' last time out.

John Adcock won the first frame for Fulford only for Ian Gillies to level. George Toone, Arthur Pegdon and Lewis Willit took the next three frames for Fulford and Acomb's Adrian Barraclough and Bob Ventress won the last two frames to keep the score to 4-3 for Fulford.

Barry Rankin (Bootham) is the Willsden Steel Player of the Year, with an unbeaten record of 14 wins.

This was last achieved by Heworth's Neil Wood in season 2000-01 and previously by Mark Winskill (Heworth) in 1989-90. Clive Whyte (Heworth) is runner-up, having lost only one game.

Wood made a 97 break this week but his 99 keeps him in the lead in the North Wolds Printers Highest Break competition. Whyte is in second place with a 67 break.

The final result will be decided after the Team Cup final, which qualifies for this season's competition. Last year Wood made a 139 clearance to win the trophy.
