A GROUP of York long distance runners provided a £40,000 cash injection for a medical charity.

The money was raised through sponsorship for covering the half marathon Great North Run course last year.

The Paddington and Great North Runners, who have raised cash for Action Medical Research over the last ten years, saw their number swell to 150 for the Tyneside race last autumn.

The group has started training for this year's run, and met on Thursday to present a cheque for the money raised last year. Anyone interested in this year's run, which will be held September 18, should phone Frank Holden on 01904 415142.
