I HAVE just returned wandering around the University of York complex, purely out of curiosity to get a grip on what people are going on about in the letters page.
The whole complex is like a mini town and I'm sure it is somewhere near the size, if not bigger than, Heslington and Fulford. I can now see the reasons why people are against the plans to expand.
Having said that, I appreciate people have to learn and I don't have a problem with students.
Looking around the university there appears to be a lot of single-storey buildings.
With a bit of careful planning could these buildings not be built upwards to accommodate more students instead of building outwards?
Could another site be considered, maybe Hungate or York Central, for example?
The university plays such an important role in this city it seems such a shame that it is on a collision course with its neighbours.
