HERE is another of those Sixties nostalgia enterprises, but ReelinandaRockin is not just a conveyor belt of bands with next to no original members left.

Instead, one house band serves the star names: Wayne Fontana, without his Mindbenders; Mike Pender but no Searchers; Brian Poole, minus The Tremeloes; Dave Berry, away from The Cruisers; Tony Crane, out of the Merseybeats; and Dave Dee but not Dozy, Beaky, Mick and Tich.

Add a couple of Nolan Sisters, Maureen and Anne, on backing vocals, and they are one big family, enjoying themselves together whether rehearsing in North Yorkshire at Bubwith or touring for three months. On Thursday, they play the Grand Opera House, York, in a show rearranged from February 4.

Latest recruit, Wayne Fontana, is in his element in his 60th year. "I joined the show last year for the Australian tour and I've now done it for six months. When I first did it, I thought it would be strange without my own band and I wondered if it would be deadly doing it all with the same band but it's not, and it's great to be doing all these Sixties songs," Wayne says.

"We only get the chance to do three of our own hits as it's such a tight show to fit everything in, because we also do things like a little piece called Songs I Wish I'd Recorded. I do Tom Jones's It's Not Unusual, Dave Dee does a Roy Orbison number, and we all do a medley of the Everly Brothers."

He loves the ReelinandaRockin format because he only has to worry about himself and enjoys the lifestyle.
