ALL four York teams won their games in the penultimate round of fixtures in the Yorkshire Chess League.
York 'A' team demolished Bradford 'A' 6-2 in division one and a win in their final game at Doncaster 'A' will see them retain the Woodhouse Cup which they won for the first time last year.
Winners against Bradford were Jos Woolley, Scott Fraser, Tony Slinger, Axel Muller and Paul Hopwood. David Adams and Patrick Gower added draws.
York 'B' team banished any lingering relegation doubts by overcoming Huddersfield 'A' 5-3 with victories from Jim Nicholson, Eric Key, Jon Griffith and James Carpenter, while Barry Marshall and Adam Ismael added draws.
In the second division, the 'C' team secured a top two finish after beating Alwoodley 5-3 thanks to wins by Peter Cloudsdale, Arron Barker and Richard Mounce. Richard Hardy, Paul Johnson, John Hart and Herbert Lockwood all drew.
York 'D' will finish in mid-table in the third division after they defeated Calderdale 'C' 5-3. Wins came from Richard Allis, Ewan Cameron, Steve Webster, Norman Andrews and Bill Fulton.
An alternative chess day will be held at York Railway Institute on Sunday starting at 10am. This involves playing variants of the game with prizes for everyone.
Anyone interested can either turn up on the day or call Richard Hardy on 07766 063865.
