FIVE mornings a week he rows 2,000 metres, swims 15 lengths and cycles six miles.

By our calculations it means John Beisly could be 750 miles away by this time next year.

But John does all his travelling in Edmund Wilson pool and gym. His astonishing fitness regime leaves us breathless with admiration.

Mr Beisly could certainly teach the younger generation a thing or two. Here, perhaps, is an unconventional answer to childhood obesity: the granddad workout.
