YOUR article about "controversial" speed cameras (Fast Cash, March 26) failed to mention that North Yorkshire has one of the highest accident fatality rates in the country. This could well be linked to the continuing head-in-the-sand policy of North Yorkshire Police not to install fixed cameras.
Perhaps, if we had one or two of the promised 85 traffic cops sent to the York area, the daily speeding which we can all see may be partially addressed.
Would one of the 85 like to come and do some enforcing in the 20mph zone outside Bishopthorpe Infants School, or even Bishopthorpe Road, Tadcaster Road, Foss Islands Road...? The list is endless.
We should all remember that speed kills. North Yorkshire Police's limited responses are just not good enough.
