ONLY one vote separated winners Bad Shots Reunion from runners-up Red Room Theory in Heat Eight of Round One of the Fibbers/ Evening Press Battle of the Bands 2005 earlier this week. Red Room Theory's voting figure of 43 per cent should ensure that they too proceed to Round Two.
In Heat 9 on Tuesday, The Hellraisins, The Lieutenants, A New Tomorrow and Harken clash at 8pm at Fibbers, Stonebow, York. Admission is £3.
Black Night Crash's Jim Gipson has a busy week ahead at Fibbers. Tonight his band headline, with support from Black Bud and Cardboard Radio; on Monday he opens the bill at the Barfly Songwriters Night featuring Amy Smith (touted as the next Norah Jones/Amy Winehouse/Rickie Lee Jones), The Flews and Charlotte Webb; on Wednesday, Black Night Crash are back in action, supporting the stridently post-punk Parlophone new signing, The Departure.
Thursday's headliners, the fearsome five-piece The Paddingtons, are "every inch the rock stars in waiting", according to Fibbers boss Tim Hornsby. "These baby-faced speed freaks are taking rock'n'roll back from defanged, subsumed and house-broken corporate rock puppies," he says.
