Oh, my God. Someone's out to gatecrash the Kaiser Chiefs' party - and it's not going to take the bouncers long to let them in.
Hot on the heels of the Leeds outfit's debut comes the self-titled offering of five-piece New Yorkers, The Bravery. The similarities are striking. Both build on stereotypically Eighties styles and The Bravery's fantastic opening track An Honest Mistake is side-by-side with the Chiefs' Oh My God in the airplay stakes. The Bravery have that slightly American, slightly mainstream edge, minus the wailing and cheesy jazz piano and sax arrangements of the Chiefs. Instead they have a signature sound layered up with synths and guitars seemingly beyond their five-man capacity that doesn't, crucially, make every song sound the same. A strong and promising debut.
