Division one leaders Nestl Rowntree's' chances of a swift return to the premier division were greatly improved even though they did not play.
Second-placed York St John's College had to settle for a point at New Earswick in a 3-3 draw.
Andrew Sherlock, who travelled from Hereford the the game, scored twice in the first half for the College, but Tom Robinson reduced the arrears in the first half before Luke Burton hit the equaliser.
Sherlock completed his hat-trick, but Jack Robinson ensured the sides drew for the second time this season with a late equaliser. Sherlock has now scored against every division one side this season.
Third-placed Hamilton Panthers were coasting along nicely at Stamford Bridge, where James Hewittson had given them the lead on 34 minutes.
But the hosts then rattled in three goals in as many minutes, Shaun Cafferty (2) and Dan Staniford on target.
Norwich Union were well on their way to recording a double over Rufforth despite missing an early penalty.
Matt Deveraux had given them the lead at the interval which Matt Hilden, with his fourth goal in as many games, had increased early in the second half.
But Rufforth stormed back to win 3-2 through Phil Hill and headers from Mark Atkinson and Paul Moss.
