DELIGHTED York residents have been celebrating the return of their local post box.
The box was removed following the closure of the Albermarle Road post office in South Bank.
But now Fred Thomas has allowed a replacement box to be installed in the wall of his shop Fred The Baker, just across the road.
He said local people had been delighted to get it back. "Loads of people have been coming in and saying thank you," he said.
Meanwhile, hopes are growing that another post box - removed following the closure of Fishergate post office - could also be replaced.
Fishergate councillor Andy D'Agorne said Post Office officials had told him they would consider providing a replacement for the box.
They had said they would assess potential suitable locations nearby and consult with utility companies and shopkeepers.
The Evening Press reported last week how the Post Office was apparently reneging on a promise to York MP Hugh Bayley to keep the post box.
A spokeswoman said there were already two other post boxes in the Fishergate area, meaning that the number of boxes was well within the requirements of the postal licence.
