MANY people seem to think those lots of Northerners are unfit, but do they know the north is home to the world's biggest half marathon - the BUPA Great North Run, which is celebrating its 25th anniversary in 2005?
It's also Britain's biggest running event, with more 47,000 people taking part each year. The 13.1 mile race takes place on September 18 and the route is from Newcastle to South Shields.
Mencap, the UK's leading charity for children and adults with a learning disability, has a limited number of places up for grabs.
To get involved and raise money for charity, you just need to pay a £25 registration fee and raise a minimum sponsorship of £325.
In return, Mencap will provide you with one-to-one fundraising support, top training advice, T-shirts, support on the day and entry to a post-race reception.
This is a great campaign and a good reason to get yourself fit, so for more details call 0845 977 7779.
