JOY quickly turned to agony for Gillamoor hat-trick hero Lee Nesfield on Saturday as he left the pitch with a badly broken ankle.
Nesfield's treble, completed with a second-half penalty, saw Gillamoor race into a 3-1 lead in their RJF Homes Beckett League Division Two League Cup tie against Ampleforth and the in-form striker also rattled the crossbar before getting injured.
Ampleforth had earlier equalised in the first round clash through Matt Petch but Nesfield's replacement Damon Potter secured victory with a fourth visitors' goal.
Jordan Hornby (2), Garry Dale, John Dale and an own goal saw St Clement's WMC progress 5-1 at the expense of Norton United Reserves, who had taken the lead courtesy of John Gibbard.
An unstoppable 25-yard free-kick from Carlton's Iain McKeown settled a five-goal thriller against Union Rovers 2nds.
Tom Kendall and Union's Martin Winstanley-Smith had both bagged braces earlier.
In the second round, Ryedale defeated Slingsby 1-0 when Ben Allan showed great character to convert a late penalty after earlier firing wide from the spot.
First division leaders Kirkdale United defeated Rosedale with first-half goals from Philip Charlton (2), Ian Prendergast and Mark Langdale to strengthen their position at the top.
Union Rovers' Pete Tiffany made amends for a penalty miss to provide the corner from which Paul Holder headed in to secure a single-goal victory over Black Swan Pickering.
A Michael Lealman double-strike saw Thornton-le-Dale ease their relegation fears with a 2-0 win against Kirkbymoorside Reserves.
Jonathan Scoble also had a penalty appeal turned down despite having to leave the field with a broken nose.
Aislaby United triumphed 3-0 at Duncombe Park with Terry Davison (2) and Adam Hornby on the scoresheet.
In the second division, Bagby and Balk ended their league campaign with a 5-1 defeat against Coxwold.
Jason Sargent (2), Paul Holmes, Ben Kelly and Gavin Watts were on target for Coxwold with Rob Walker getting Bagby's late consolation.
Remaining second round matches to be played in the Second Division Cup are: Gillamoor v Bagby and Balk, Old Malton 3rds v Carlton United, Coxwold v St Clement's WMC.
