CASTLEFORD coach David Woods has called for more consistent refereeing at National League level.
The Tigers' 24-16 win at York City Knights on Sunday was littered with questionable refereeing decisions which included several tries being controversially awarded or disallowed.
Another of those decisions saw York forward John Smith sin-binned for lying-on, with Cas going ahead for the first time in the game while he was off the pitch. Knights boss Mick Cook described that as "very harsh as we had not been warned once about lying-on while Cas were warned several times before they got a yellow card", but otherwise made no comment about the officiating.
However, Woods described the performance of Ben Thaler and his touch judges as "ordinary refereeing".
He said: "We can't keep copping that week in, week out."
The Cas coach, who had one player sin-binned by Thaler and another put on report and later red carded, added: "The referees have got to be a bit more consistent with what they're doing."
As for Cas' performance, Woods added: "It was very ordinary but all credit to York, they played good footy, had more enthusiasm and did a lot of work and looked to shut us down.
"Being full-time probably would have had a bit to do with (our win) as was the fact that in the last 20 minutes we held the ball more."
