WEARING full fire kit and breathing apparatus may not be the most sensible dress in which to cycle up to 45 miles.
But firefighters at RAF Linton-on-Ouse will be pedalling a gruelling route in breathing apparatus and safety equipment when they take on the Selby Bike Ride.
Thirteen men from the base are preparing for the race, which is organised by Selby Lions and takes place on May 8 with about 700 cyclists doing either a 45-mile or 25-mile route.
Linton firefighter Barry Thompson said the full kit weighed 50lb.
He said "It's a bit hard to see round with our helmets on, so we might have to leave those off.
"We will be wearing breathing apparatus - this will add an extra weight of around 15lb."
As well as supporting the ride's nominated charities, the firefighters will donate half of their sponsorship money to the Fire Service's Benevolent Fund.
If you can help sponsor the team, phone Barry on 01757 212148.
