Heworth ARLC's mini-revival came to a shuddering halt as they were hammered 60-6 at Waterhead.
The Villagers remained clear of the re-election zone in National Conference League division two thanks to defeats for Cottingham and Huddersfield Sharks, but they will need to put this performance out of their system if they are to make sure they stay away from the bottom two.
Promotion-seeking Waterhead scored ten tries and ten goals to stay on course and Heworth spokesman Ken Sykes said: "They played extremely well, with some very good football at a quick pace, but our tackling was woeful at times.
"It was a bit of a backward step for us after some decent performances and we will have to lift our game again for the next matches."
The writing was on the wall from the off as Heworth fumbled on their own line to gift Matthew Barran the opening try and Waterhead went on to register further scores for Terry Fitzgerald (2), Mike Foggerty (2), Matthew Har-land, Ryan Collins, Darren Nixon, James Campbell and Tony Pemberton, with Collins adding the ten goals.
Heworth, for whom Luke Judson was the man of the match for non-stop effort at loose-forward, got their only consolation on 67 minutes through a Wayne Foster try and Carl Potter conversion.
