AMATEUR full-back Lee Lingard will go straight into the York City Knights line-up on Sunday after arriving at the club on trial last night.
Lingard, who plays for unbeaten Yorkshire League premier division outfit Sharlston Rovers, earned himself a shot at professional rugby after impressing Knights development officer Jason Ramshaw in Sharlston's Powergen Challenge Cup third round showdown against Oldham last week.
And with the Knights' short of a whole team due to injuries and unavailability - Mark Cain being the latest to be ruled out after damaging two fingers at work yesterday - Lingard will take the number one shirt at Huntington Stadium on Sunday against Castleford Tigers.
Knights coach Mick Cook said: "He is quite keen to further his career into the professional game and while we have got a huge injury crisis it gives us a good opportunity to get a look at him."
Any remaining tickets for Sunday's all-ticket clash will be on sale at the office before the game for cash buyers only.
After good sales last night there were about 500 tickets left at the York club office today. Fans are urged to book in advance if possible.
