SHELLEY Tatterton and Brenda Drummond provided the key to victory for Nestl Rowntree against University Staff in ladies division one of the York Badminton League.
Their one and eight victory over Sally Locker and S Foster nicked a thrilling 5-4 win after Sheila Mackarel and Jo Wade took three University wins for a total of 103-75.
It was just as close when Fulfordgate beat Market Weighton in division two at Burnholme School. Ruth Roberts and Lorraine Gregory clinched the home win with a 12 and one victory over Kerry Hodson and Julie Stephenson.
The battle of the Railway Institute clubs in men's division one saw the Monday/Wednesday club hammer their Tuesday/Thursday colleagues 9-0 with father and son pairing of Richard and James Pauw amassing a total of 100-47.
RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B' used home advantage to record a 5-4 win over University Students 'B' in men's three. Mark Stenson and Dave Bainbridge landed the vital Institute win with a 7 and 12 victory over Rik Holden and X Gee.
Riverside 'A' were good value for an 8-1 win over Clifton 'B' in mixed one in which Geoff Oxley and Alison Hyde were the pick of the pairs with a return of 90-27. Phil Sinton and Helen Robinson picked up Clifton's consolation.
Nestl 'A' won 6-3 at Pocklington 'A' in mixed two with Mark Barker and Brenda Drummond scoring 92-52 for the visitors.
Clifton 'C' had differing fortunes in mixed three, beating RI Tuesday/Thursday 'B' 8-1, and then losing 6-3 to the Tuesday/Thursday 'A' team three days later.
Lorraine Ellis and Kevin Davison took all three Clifton wins against the Institute 'A' team, but Sue Maddison and Tony Kirkman clinched RI's win with a five and six victory over Gerry Screeton and Bill Ellis.
Mixed four leaders Riverside 'B' lost 5-4 at University Students 'C' whose Paddy Clarke and C Bonner won three times for a for a total of 97-80.
Selby Jubilee 'B' reinforced their second spot in mixed four with an 8-1 win at Market Weighton where James Barrett and Steph Bevan top-scored with three straight wins for 90-31.
Pat Santin and Chris Smethurst scored three straight wins for a total of 90-51 as Terry's triumphed 7-2 at Selby Jubilee 'C' in mixed five.
Middlethorpe lost 6-3 at home to Tadcaster 86 'B' whose Alistair Blacklee and Lynne Williams scored 90-3, including an eight and six over Ann Oxley and Ian Thompson, who took two home wins.
